Application for Hospital Licence
Meaning of Hospital
A hospital is any premises that are used, or intended to be used, for –
- Providing medical services to patients, with lodging;
- Carrying out medical procedures on patients, with lodging; or
-
Receiving –
- A pregnant woman for childbirth or
- A woman immediately after she gives birth to a child,
but does not include the premises specified in Schedule 2 to Cap.633
- A residential care home within the meaning of the Residential Care Homes (Elderly Persons) Ordinance (Cap. 459) for which a licence or a certificate of exemption under that Ordinance is in force.
- treatment centre within the meaning of the Drug Dependent Persons Treatment and Rehabilitation Centres (Licensing) Ordinance (Cap. 566) for which a licence or a certificate of exemption under that Ordinance is in force.
- A residential care home for PWDs within the meaning of the Residential Care Homes (Persons with Disabilities) Ordinance (Cap. 613) for which a licence or a certificate of exemption under that Ordinance is in force.
- A boarding school within the meaning of the Education Regulations (Cap. 279 sub. leg. A).
How to Apply
- Read the Code of Practice for Private Hospitals, guidance notes for the application, application form and all relevant forms and documents before application
- Fill in the application form through

- Duly sign the application form and the corresponding declaration forms
- Prepare all required supporting document(s)
- Submit all the documents listed in (3) and (4) to the Department of Health
- Pay the application fee on or before the due date stated on the general demand note. Payment methods are specified on the general demand note

Validity Period of Licence
Valid for a period of not more than 2 years as specified in the licence, which is to begin on the date specified in the licence for that purpose.
