Background

The Private Healthcare Facilities Ordinance (Cap. 633) (the Ordinance), which was gazetted on 30 November 2018, introduced a new regulatory regime for private healthcare facilities (PHFs) in Hong Kong. Day procedure centres are one type of PHFs to be regulated under the Ordinance. The Department of Health promulgated the Code of Practice for Day Procedure Centres (the CoP) which sets out the licensing standards in respect of the equipment, fittings and furnishings, management and staffing, quality of care and patient safety, and other matters for protecting the health and interest of service recipients in day procedure centres. The healthcare engineering systems, including electrical installations, specialized ventilation systems and medical gas pipeline systems, are important to ensuring safe delivery of service to patients.

Purpose

The purpose of the Seminar is to brief engineering, facility management and related healthcare professionals on the latest development of the regulatory regime of PHFs in Hong Kong. The requirements, standards and guidelines of healthcare engineering systems of day procedure centres, as promulgated in the CoP, will be introduced. Expert speakers are also invited to share their experience on the application of internationally acceptable healthcare engineering standards to day procedure centres.
